Hathern's famous band from the C19th to more recent times
Hathern Band 1886.One of the earliest photographs of the band, taken east side of The Elms. The uniform was bought in 1879 by contributers who were thanked by Bandmaster William Widdowson in a newspaper article. From Old Hathern in Pictures page 66.

Hathern Band. Maybe this relates to a club feast held by the New Sick Club in a field lent by Mr. J. Coooper, of the Anchor Inn in July 1890 - a procession with 'officers bearing flags and members carrying wands'. See report in 'News Archive'

Hathern Band opposite Stone House 1896. Old Hathern in Pictures page 67. Hathern's new Prize band, created in 1890 by Tom Miller snr. previously a member of Hathern's original band. Tom recruited his 5 sons into the new band.

In 1890, Tom who had been a member of the Brass Band from its formation, left to found a rival band, thought to be because of political differences between the 2 groups

Ernest Miller c.1936. Ernest became conductor on the death of his brother "Dickie" in Dec 1935 and remained conductor until 1950. Old Hathern in Pictures page 69

Thomas Miller, son of the founder of the second band, a record 55 years a cornet player for Hathern Prize Band, and bandmaster for 23 years.From article in Nottingham Evening Post June 11th 1932
Thomas followed his father who was bandmaster for 40 years. At one time he had 4 brothers in the band. He has played the same cornet for 40 years, is a verger at the Parish Church and has worked at the hand-knitting frames for 56 years

Hathern Prize Band c.1934. Old Hathern in Pictures page 69. The 2 bands amalgamated in 1917 to become the United Prize Band and included Jimmy Fisher (from the old Band) as principal cornet, and Tom Miller jnr as Bandmaster
Tom had taken over the Prize Band following the death of his father in 1909. Following Jimmy's death in 1933 the word "United" was droppd from the title.
